SOFT CORNER

Few of my batch-mates tease me, saying ‘u r among favorites of Dean’. Though, I don’t agree on this, but the fact is that he has a soft corner for me; as I feel or as he likes my way of going about, my initiative, leadership, assignment, humor, etc.

Last Sunday (19th Sept) I happen to join him for Mass (Private) as I had Conjunctivitis (eye-infection). In the mass I realized that his liking has one more tag, i.e., an emotional feeling for me as both of us have ‘departed fathers’ and ‘aging mothers’. Thus a bond develops to attach to, feel for and give a thought to.

The love of mother and absence of father were common to us, thus we could sympathize with or at times feel close to other. I know Dean was rather close to his father and also to mother, as he shared this to me few times. He knows me well and of family as a moderator. Thus, soft corner as I thought was just due to my being respectful, fair dealings or my qualities were only partially correct.

Other than this he likes me as a Tribal (himself has disclosed), because he worked in Orrisa. Thus, his likeness and bond-ness, all the more.

Thus all factors makeup for this soft corner, yet I have felt this soft corner excludes academic and official matters. Surely no familiarization when exercising the authority,

jesus my lord

Hey! Now when ever you feel ‘a soft corner’ for someone? Check it out!!

I thought now I must give a second check to the idea before feeling soft corner again!!

Simple getting me!!!

PARADOX OF LIFE

lawrencekka@in.com
HE WHO PRODUCES STRUGGLES MOST, YET RECEIVES MEAGRE
HE WHO WORKS HARDER, YET RECEIVES VERY MINIMUM
BUT HE WHO WORKS LEAST RECEIVES MORE

IN OUR WORLD, HE WHO NEEDS DOES NOT MEET HIS REQUIREMENTS
BUT HE WHO DOES NOT NEED RECEIVE, WHAT IS NOT WORTH HAVING.
POVERTY, ILLETRACY, INFRASTRUCTURE ETC.

FARMERS PRODUCE THE CROPS FOR THEIR SURVIVAL
BUT OTHER MIDDLE MAN EATS UP THE PROFITS.

THE LABOURS WORK AND STRUGGLES MOST IN VARIOUS WORK
BUT THE OWNER/SUPERVISOR/CONTRACTOR GETS THE HIGHEST PAY.

But never for the sake sexual fun, which is harmful,
Power of words to encourage, comfort and approve,
But never to criticize, blame or put others down
Power of smile to radiate lively fragrance and cheer
But never to generate wounds, tears and fear,
Muscle power to use our strengths and energy purposeful
But never for violence or acts of terrorism, destructful
Will power to persevere in life and achieve goals
But never to loose heart and fail

But never to be stubborn and grow in fierce hostility
Power of service to support, care, serve and transform
But never to selfish self-centered wishes but reform

THE CALL OF EVERY CHRISTIAN lawrencekka@in.com
It is a call, a divine call for all,
To live our life, as taught by Christ.
Be’coz..
Christ is the way, who guides our steps.
Christ is the truth, who enlightens our life.
Christ is the life, our ultimate hope $ goal.

What must be our response then…?
The truth must be told, boldly,
The way must be walked, rightly,
And the life must be lived, well.

What kind of action is required…?
As salt of the earth, to flavor the taste.
As light of the world, to shine for all(men).
As leaven of the dough, to transform all.

Do we live up to this call?
Do we respond to it?
If we are Christians true,
It’s our duty, it’s our call,
To follow Christ, and live our life well.

MISSIONARY JOMON DEVASIA
We don't realize it, but we are all missionaries. What kind of
Missionaries are we- Go-missionary, Co-missionaries or
No-missionaries. A GO MISSIONARY is the one who extends his mission
work even to the foreign land and brings the good news to millions who have not heard of it. A CO-MISSIONARY is one who cannot himself go into foreign land, but who co-operates whole heatedly with his prayers and gifts for the spread of the good news. A NO-MISSIONARY is one who neither goes nor cooperates; he just sits back in his lethargy action and condition.
May the word Go Missionary ring unceasingly in your ears to enable you to say LORD HERE AM I; SEND ME. May that ringing strengthen you to count no cost. If you cannot be a Go Missionary be a co-missionary; let your ceaseless prayer ascend to God and let your generous gifts help the needy, let both your prayers and your gifts support the want of the Go-Missionaries. Christian's missionaries have gone in all directions and under the most trying conditions. They have gone before governments and individuals; they have gone to the surrounding villages and distant lands; they have gone to royal palaces and criminal prisons, they have endured heat and brutal death. But the love of God drives these Go-Missionaries to the uttermost parts of the earth. The love of god and the love for souls make them burn with zeal and cry, Lord Give us courage to seek Souls.
A COMPANY I WANT .YESUMANI SUNDAR UTHIRIYARAJ
I want a company,
Who can accompany,
In all my ways,
In all my tasks.

I want a company,
To walk by my side,
And to decide good,
And to put aside the bad.

I want a company,
To have fun with,
To have chat with,
And to enjoy with.

I want a company,
To share with,
And to understand withM
And to read me.

I want a company,
Not for of penny,
But that of love,
To solve all and everything.

This is the company,
The search of many,
So badly in need,
The good company.

LOVE
What is love? Why it happens?
How it starts? Why only few succeed?

It’s a feeling between persons two,
Knowing well each other’s who.
It means emotions passing through,
Eyes, hearts, words and actions too.

In love if you happen to fall,
Just flow with it, don’t ignore the call.
Don’t hurt the other but stand tall,
Go through the experience as they (come) shall.

Never misuse or take advantage of the other
Be tender, caring and support like a mother,
It’s an energy which joins minds and hearts,
A bond cared and kept till it lasts.

In love we share god who is love,
Loving fellow beings and god above.
It’s our duty to spread love,
Be’coz there’s nothing…
As beautiful and wonderful as love. ………lawrencekka@in.com

A MORNING AT A VILLAGE …Lawrence

Amid chirping of birds far and close by,
Cries and laughter of children near by,
Calm and cool, fresh and serene air to breathe,
With crows of cock, I got up day each.

To find the gift of life from the lord almighty,
Awake from the slumber of dark and deep sleep.
To a bright morning, leading me to live,
Charge oneself with life, energy and warmth.

First encounter with surrounding seems refreshed,
A call to be one with its splendid feeling,
Oh! The clock towers-(cocks) calling aloud,
To leave the sleepy and lazy mood.
Oh! See the watch towers (dogs) sleeping by,
Recharging from heat of the earth.

The smoke from the thatched house,
Gives me the sense, people are ready to sip,
A cup of tea, giving them a warm and refresh treat.

WHAT IS MARRIAGE???

1. Marriage is not a word. It's a sentence (a life sentence).

2. Marriage is love. Love is blind. Therefore, marriage is an institution for the blind.

3. Marriage is an institution in which a man loses his Bachelor's Degree and the woman gets her master’s.
4. Marriage is a three-ring circus: engagement ring, wedding ring and suffering.

5. Married life is full of excitement and frustration: In the first year of marriage, the man speaks and the woman listens. In the second year, the woman speaks and the man listens. In the third year, they both speak and the NEIGHBOUR listens.

6. Getting married is very much like going to a restaurant with friends. You order what you want, and when you see what the other person has, you wish you had ordered that instead.

7. There was this man who muttered a few words in the church and found himself married. A year later he muttered something in his sleep and found himself divorced.

8. A happy marriage is a matter of giving and taking; the husband gives and the wife takes.

9. Son: “How much does it cost to get married, Dad?”
Father: “I don't know son, I'm still paying for it.”

10. Son: “Is it true Dad? I heard that in ancient China, a man doesn't
know his wife until he marries her.”
Father: “That happens everywhere, son, EVERYWHERE! “

11. Love is one long sweet dream, and marriage is the alarm clock.

12. They say that when a man holds a woman's hand before
marriage, it is love; after marriage it is self-defense.

13. When a newly married man looks happy, we know why. But when a 10-year married man looks happy, we wonder why.

14. There was this lover who said that he would go through hell for her. They got married, and now he is going through HELL.

16. When a man steals your wife, there is no better revenge than to let him keep her.

17. Eighty percent of married men cheat in America, the rest cheat in Europe.

18. After marriage, husband and wife become two sides of a coin. They just can't face each other, but they still stay together.

19. Marriage is man and a woman become one. The trouble starts when they try to decide which one.

20. Before marriage, a man yearns for the woman he loves. After the marriage the "Y" becomes silent.

21. I married Miss Right; I just didn't know her first name was “Always”.

22. It's not true that married men live longer than single men, it only seems longer.

23. Losing a wife can be hard. In my case, it was almost impossible.

24. A man was complaining to a friend: I HAD IT ALL-MONEY, A BEAUTIFUL HOUSE, THE LOVE OF A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN, THEN POW! IT WAS ALL GONE! WHAT HAPPENED? asked his friend. He says, MY WIFE FOUND OUT.

25. WIFE: “Let's go out and have some fun tonight.” HUSBAND: “OK, but if you get home before I do, leave the hallway lights on.”

26. At a cocktail party, one woman said to another: AREN'T YOU WEARING YOUR RING ON THE WRONG FINGER? The other replied, YES, I, AM. I MARRIED THE WRONG MAN.

27. Man is incomplete until he gets married, then he is finished.

28. It doesn't matter how often a married man changes his job, he still ends up with the same boss.

29. A man inserted an ad in the paper: WIFE WANTED. The next day he received a hundred of letters and they all said the same thing - YOU CAN HAVE MINE.

30. When a man opens the door of his car for his wife, you can be sure of one thing - either the car is new or the wife is.
All these are being spread by those who don't wanna marry ? BUT, Marriage is one of the best happenings in some-one's life !

To My Soul Mate………………………….

As I sit amidst the children who are flying kite
in the sky I am reminded of my own life, especially
of my friend. However, distanced we may be, there
are some holy time spent threads that unite us.
Certainly, among these threads there is a thread of friendship. If this thread is broken or cut off nobody can guess what would be our fate. Perhaps, a sort of imprisonment of the soul with its romantic and nostalgic feeling, or a melancholic depression or apathy or inertia or deep feeling of loneliness would be the plight of the one who has been rejected or has lost his close friends, and he becomes the victim of a bitter experience indeed. This could be what prompted David to sing in the Psalms: “even my bosom friend in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread………”

The greatest gift in life one may receive is the gift of friendship. A friend is not merely a ‘Companion’. In Latin the word ‘companion’ it is made up of cum and pane which means the one who shares the bread together, of my dreams, of my inner thoughts, of my inner feelings, or one who sits with me at my table for a meal. It is not necessary that friends should live under one roof. Body is only a medium. But the heart relates to the heart slowly but deeply, and the friend comes to know even his soul mate’s inner self.
As marriage is an indissoluble bond blessed by God, so too is friendship. Intimate friends are joined by God, so let nobody ever break it……
Even Jesus had longed for intimate friendship. The three, Peter, John and Jacob were with Him. He might have wished that they would stay with Him in times of his glories and agonies. Certainly, they were with Him to experience the glories at Tabor, they were drowsy even then they kept awake. They wanted to be there always .They were with Him in His Gethsemane of agony and grief too, but they were found sleeping when he came back after praying……… .

Dear soul mate be with me in my Tabors and in my Gethsemanes. Nobody should leave anybody midway through one’s life. Friendship a covenant which never ends not even in death……….

Winter days

Winter days of the year
Hinder us not to review
Hidden errors of our life
For a wonderful future.

Now the time for us to review
The unarranged menu of our life,
Little instances of negligence,
Are to be considered seriously.

Let not the cold breeze of the day
Make us slow in our daily life
May the new buds of the rose
Remind us the message of life.

Fragence of the little Lilly
Ring a bell of our God's love.
Let our little love and kindness
Kindle a lamb in the frozen hearts.

Melodies of the Carroll song
Wants us to examine life
Stars of the skies remind us
How to glitter in the future days.

Cake pieces on the table may bring,
A pleasing smile on our faces,
To receive our Lord in our hearts,
And be filled with his pining love.

Decoration on the walls
Is not an alternative
For the adoration of the Lord Almighty.
But………………

with a humble heart
Let us kneel down
before our loving God......

Dare to Dream
‘I have a Dream’ thundered Martin Luther King Jr. before a throng of people
on the Washington mall in August 28, 1963. Even after the Emancipation Act of
Abraham Lincoln in 1865 that ended slavery in America racial discrimination still
persisted in the land of the oldest democracy. The blacks who laid the stones for a
prosperous America were facing the enduring problem of racial injustice that was
manifested in the form of segregation, discrimination, poverty and domestic exile. At this time there arose a prophetic voice, the voice of a dreamer. The dreamer proclaimed, “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out to the true meaning of its creed: we hold these truth to be self evident, that all men are created equal”. His dream became a beacon of hope for millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of wreathing injustice. The prophetic dreamer’s dream was regarding the distant future. The dream took forty five years to become a reality. In a nation that deprived the blacks the right to vote elected a black Barack Hussian Obama as their new president.
What does it do to me? Long ago a Negro dreamt in a far away country and today that dream has come true. I stand here and look at the horizon and imagine that dreamer and the dreamed, a nostalgic feeling creeps in me. Can I dream? Can I become a dreamer? A dream for my persecuted community. My heart sores when my brethren are persecuted because they are Christians. Even after sixty years of independence the Indian Christian is not free in his own country, India. Even after sixty years the life of the Christian still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and chains of discrimination. Even after Sixty years of independence of India, the Christian lives on a lonely island of fear in the midst of vast of ocean of religious pluralism. Even after sixty years freedom of India, the Christian is still languishing in the corners of Indian society and finds himself an exile in his own land. Can I be a dreamer for this my shattered community or can you or can we all become dreamers? Whatever may be I have a dream!
I have dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its constitution that everyone has the freedom to follow his/her religion.
I have a dream that one day in the jungles of Kandhmal the children of the persecutors and the persecuted will be able to sit down together and celebrate brotherhood/sisterhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of Orissa, a state sweltering with a heat of religious communalism will be transformed into an oasis of religious freedom and peace.
I have a dream that one day my community will live in a nation where they will not be judged by the religion but by the content of their character.
I have dream that one day I will not be deprived of my basic rights because I am a Christian. I have a dream today, I still have.
This is my hope. This is the faith that keeps me going. Are you ready to dream and strive to make your dream a reality?
Why is the media here IS so negative?
A Letter to Every Indian BY DR. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?

We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.

Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.
I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news.
In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime.. Why are we so NEGATIVE? Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign T.Vs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology.
Why this obsession with everything imported.. Do we not realize that self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India. For her, you and I will have to build this developed India. You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.
Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance.
Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice is yours.
YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke. The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.

YOU say, say and say. What do YOU do about it?

Take a person on his way to Singapore . Give him a name - 'YOURS'. Give him a face - 'YOURS'. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best. In Singapore you don! 't throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores. YOU are as proud of their Underground links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs. 60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road) between 5 PM and 8 PM.. YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity… In Singapore you don't say anything, DO YOU? YOU wouldn't dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai . YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah.
YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds (Rs.650) a month to, 'see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else.'YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, 'Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so's son. Take your two bucks and get lost.' YOU wouldn't chuck an empty c! oconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Au stralia and New Zealand .
Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ? Why don't YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are still talking of the same YOU. YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India ?
In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan .
Will the Indian citizen do that here?' He's right. We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility.
We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to d! o everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick a up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin. We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms.
We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity.
This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service to the public.

When it comes to burning social issues like those related to women, dowry, girl child! and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excu! se? 'It's the whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my sons' rights to a dowry.' So who's going to change the system?
What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbours, other households, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU.. When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr.Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away.
Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system.. When New York becomes insecure we run to England . When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody think! s of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money.

Dear Indians, The article is highly thought inductive, calls for a great deal of introspection and pricks one's conscience too….. I am echoing J. F. Kennedy's words to his fellow Americans to relate to Indians…..

'ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY'
Lets do what India needs from us.

FIRST DESK TOP

EVEN GOD CAN HAVE HUMOUR
God was in the process of creating the universe
And he was explaining to his subordinate
Look everything should be in balance
For example after every ten deer there should be lion.
Look here my fellow angels, here is the country of the United States.
I have blessed then with prosperity and money
But at the same time I have given them insecurity and tension…
And here is Africa
I have given them beautiful nature
But at the same time, I have given them climatic extremes,
And here is South America
I have given them lots of forests
But at the same time I have given them less land so that
They would have to cut off the forests…
So you see fellows, everything should be in balance.
One of the angels asked…
“God, what is this extremely beautiful country here?”
God said, “Ahah! That is the crown piece of all INDIA”
My most precious creation.
It has understanding and friendly people. Sparkling streams and serene mountains.
A culture which speaks of the great tradition that hey live.
Technologically brilliant and with a heart of Gold.”
The angel was quite surprised:
“But God you said everything should be in balance”
God replied – “Look at the neighbors I have given them”

I SAW THE WORLD
BY BRO. ANISH JEBERSON
I saw a crowd,
Of lovely people,
I saw a garden
Of dying petals.

I saw happiness,
On gloomy face,
I saw every man,
An actor of stages

I saw friends
With envious mind
I Saw men,
Being Unkind

I Saw People fighting
For Water and for Land
I Saw People killing
Fro wine and bread.

I Saw the world,
Both at day and night,
I Saw the world
In the fading light.

OH! CHRISTMAS DAY- LAWRENCE
When…
Angels sang ‘a good news’ of great joy,
In manger, there is a newborn boy,
Let God, be glory in highest heaven,
And peace on earth among good men.

This happened on that great Christmas day,
When Christ made among us, his way,
This memory we celebrate to this day,
Buy saying ‘Happy Christmas’ and being gay.

Christ came among us at night,
With message full of love and good tide,
He taught us to live a life bright,
Upright at heart and at men’s sight.

However, ‘happy Christmas’ to each other we say,
Forgetting all our woes and hate, come our way,
Away with terror O God, give peace a chance we pray,
Among us, let love, peace and joy of yours’ stay.

REFLECTION ON HUMAN LIFE FROM WOMB TO TOMB
BY LAWRENC EKKA
A newly born child comes into the world with experience of pain, IS
initiated into a strange world and human life
As a babe-is
Incorporated into a strange family of papa/mom/ bro/sister and many circles of family
As he grows to childhood-
Interlinked into a strange peer group of some close, envious and
rival friends
Inclined into certain ways of behavior and pattern of life
Invested with values of socio-religious-culture and society
Instructed into life situations, community life work culture and various aspects of life
Informed and in hailed into trend of divisive hatred
Injected about religious ideology instilled to be like someone like them
Inspired to be a good person
But, at the threshold of adulthood/manhood
How much sense or meaning he makes out of all those privileges, opportunities, challenges and growth process to become what we are
You and I only can make the answer possible with only hope for a good and better tomorrow.

FRIENDSHIP BY AROGYA SWAMI
Friendship is a bond
Which is deeper than deepest pond
It's mainly based on trust
Which in friendship is a must

In true friendship one can die,
But never tell a simple lie
True friendship can never end
And your luck if yours a true friend

A friend should not have privacy
But to share all the privacy,
He must be one who takes care
And also one who is dares.

So I think my search for the definition of friendship must end.
And begin to search.
For a loving, caring and trusting friend.

Accept Yourself As You Are LIZO KODIPADAN

I happened to read a story and it goes like this, “There was once a
man who inherited a farm. He had always lived in the city, so he
had no idea of how to farm, except that he had often met the people
who were going out to weed their crops as he went to work in
the morning. He was afraid to ask his neighbors what he should do
because he did not want to show is ignorance. So he said to himself: ‘I know a good farmer is the one who weeds his farm well. So I will do that and hope that all will be well’. He hired a tractor and got his farm ploughed: it was a small farm of only two acres. Shortly after the first rains, the weeds began to appear, so he started weeding. As soon as he had finished, the weeds begun growing again where he hade started his work. But he did not mind; he had nothing else to do; so he started his work again. When harvest time came, he had the cleanest farm in the whole area not a single weed was to be seen. But he had no crop, no food, and all his money had been used up.
May time each one of us repeats the same foolishness that happened for the farmer. In our spiritual life we try to root-out many disqualifications. But alas we never try to cultivate some virtues in our life. Thereby after a long time of formation there is mo much change-taking place in our lives. About this Jesus speaks in the gospel of St. Mathew, through ‘the return of the unclean spirit’ (Mt12, 43-45)
One another thing we can notice in our life is, we too follow the same attitude of the farmer. We do not want to show the ignorance to others. We are covering and keeping our ignorance by wearing masks according to the situation. and very often we learn nothing. St. Augustine says, “There are three things for learning, the first thing is humility, the second is humility, the third is humility.” Humility would mean that to accept one as he is. The attitude may help each one of us to make tremendous change in our life. So it is our duty to accept ourselves as we are and avoid ignorance.

Prayer is the Key of Life SIJO KURU

All of you might have heard of Naradha Maharishi. There is a story connected
to him. Once Naradha went to vaikundam in order to visit Mahavishnu. Before
leaving from there, he asked Vishnu, “Swami, who is the best devote of you?”
Vishnu smiled and replied, “my dear son in Nikyaya there is a farmer, he is
the best devotee of me.” Naradhan felt ashamed about it because he thought
that he is the best devotee of Vishnu. Anyway he came out from Vaikundam with a pale face. He went to the farmer and asked him about his prayer, the farmer said, “I pray only twice a day, when I go for the work and when I come back from the farm”. Hearing this Naradhan was so happy, straight away he went to Vishnu and said, “See your devotee is praying only twice in a day, then how can he become the best devotee of you?” Vishnu told nothing. But after thinking for a moment he summoned a soldier and told him to bring one glass of milk, and he did so. Milk was filled till the brim of the glass. Vishnu told Naradhan, “You do one thing take this glass of milk and go around as you do usually, then come in the evening. But one thing you should remember that not even a single drop of milk should fall from the glass. And come in the evening.” Naradhan accepted the challenge and went away from the Vaikundam. At the evening he came back to Vishnu to show that he has faithfully carried our the task. With a smiling face Vsihnu asked him, “Dear son did you think of me this day?” Naradhan replied, I did not remember you swami, my concentration was only in the work that you had entrusted to me.” Then Vishnu said to him, “Because of this small work you could not get time to think about me. But you see that farmer he is entrusted to look after his children, parents, wife, etc. even then he calls up on me twice a day. If it is so who is the best devotee of me?
Although it is a small story, it contains a lot of things for us. Some times we also think we are men of prayer. But there are people who are praying better than us. We should not be proud of our life. Same as Naradha sometimes we also forget to call up on our Lord when we are busy with our studies, work etc. But we never forget to have our food and play etc. If we are not giving priority to the prayer in our life we should remember the words of Jesus, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going to enter the kingdom of God ahead of you.” (Mt21,32) Once Gandhiji told, “Prayer is the key and lock of my daily life”. Same as Gandhiji we should begin our day with prayer and end with the same.
