FIRST DESK TOP

EVEN GOD CAN HAVE HUMOUR
God was in the process of creating the universe
And he was explaining to his subordinate
Look everything should be in balance
For example after every ten deer there should be lion.
Look here my fellow angels, here is the country of the United States.
I have blessed then with prosperity and money
But at the same time I have given them insecurity and tension…
And here is Africa
I have given them beautiful nature
But at the same time, I have given them climatic extremes,
And here is South America
I have given them lots of forests
But at the same time I have given them less land so that
They would have to cut off the forests…
So you see fellows, everything should be in balance.
One of the angels asked…
“God, what is this extremely beautiful country here?”
God said, “Ahah! That is the crown piece of all INDIA”
My most precious creation.
It has understanding and friendly people. Sparkling streams and serene mountains.
A culture which speaks of the great tradition that hey live.
Technologically brilliant and with a heart of Gold.”
The angel was quite surprised:
“But God you said everything should be in balance”
God replied – “Look at the neighbors I have given them”

I SAW THE WORLD
BY BRO. ANISH JEBERSON
I saw a crowd,
Of lovely people,
I saw a garden
Of dying petals.

I saw happiness,
On gloomy face,
I saw every man,
An actor of stages

I saw friends
With envious mind
I Saw men,
Being Unkind

I Saw People fighting
For Water and for Land
I Saw People killing
Fro wine and bread.

I Saw the world,
Both at day and night,
I Saw the world
In the fading light.

OH! CHRISTMAS DAY- LAWRENCE
When…
Angels sang ‘a good news’ of great joy,
In manger, there is a newborn boy,
Let God, be glory in highest heaven,
And peace on earth among good men.

This happened on that great Christmas day,
When Christ made among us, his way,
This memory we celebrate to this day,
Buy saying ‘Happy Christmas’ and being gay.

Christ came among us at night,
With message full of love and good tide,
He taught us to live a life bright,
Upright at heart and at men’s sight.

However, ‘happy Christmas’ to each other we say,
Forgetting all our woes and hate, come our way,
Away with terror O God, give peace a chance we pray,
Among us, let love, peace and joy of yours’ stay.

REFLECTION ON HUMAN LIFE FROM WOMB TO TOMB
BY LAWRENC EKKA
A newly born child comes into the world with experience of pain, IS
initiated into a strange world and human life
As a babe-is
Incorporated into a strange family of papa/mom/ bro/sister and many circles of family
As he grows to childhood-
Interlinked into a strange peer group of some close, envious and
rival friends
Inclined into certain ways of behavior and pattern of life
Invested with values of socio-religious-culture and society
Instructed into life situations, community life work culture and various aspects of life
Informed and in hailed into trend of divisive hatred
Injected about religious ideology instilled to be like someone like them
Inspired to be a good person
But, at the threshold of adulthood/manhood
How much sense or meaning he makes out of all those privileges, opportunities, challenges and growth process to become what we are
You and I only can make the answer possible with only hope for a good and better tomorrow.

FRIENDSHIP BY AROGYA SWAMI
Friendship is a bond
Which is deeper than deepest pond
It's mainly based on trust
Which in friendship is a must

In true friendship one can die,
But never tell a simple lie
True friendship can never end
And your luck if yours a true friend

A friend should not have privacy
But to share all the privacy,
He must be one who takes care
And also one who is dares.

So I think my search for the definition of friendship must end.
And begin to search.
For a loving, caring and trusting friend.

Accept Yourself As You Are LIZO KODIPADAN

I happened to read a story and it goes like this, “There was once a
man who inherited a farm. He had always lived in the city, so he
had no idea of how to farm, except that he had often met the people
who were going out to weed their crops as he went to work in
the morning. He was afraid to ask his neighbors what he should do
because he did not want to show is ignorance. So he said to himself: ‘I know a good farmer is the one who weeds his farm well. So I will do that and hope that all will be well’. He hired a tractor and got his farm ploughed: it was a small farm of only two acres. Shortly after the first rains, the weeds began to appear, so he started weeding. As soon as he had finished, the weeds begun growing again where he hade started his work. But he did not mind; he had nothing else to do; so he started his work again. When harvest time came, he had the cleanest farm in the whole area not a single weed was to be seen. But he had no crop, no food, and all his money had been used up.
May time each one of us repeats the same foolishness that happened for the farmer. In our spiritual life we try to root-out many disqualifications. But alas we never try to cultivate some virtues in our life. Thereby after a long time of formation there is mo much change-taking place in our lives. About this Jesus speaks in the gospel of St. Mathew, through ‘the return of the unclean spirit’ (Mt12, 43-45)
One another thing we can notice in our life is, we too follow the same attitude of the farmer. We do not want to show the ignorance to others. We are covering and keeping our ignorance by wearing masks according to the situation. and very often we learn nothing. St. Augustine says, “There are three things for learning, the first thing is humility, the second is humility, the third is humility.” Humility would mean that to accept one as he is. The attitude may help each one of us to make tremendous change in our life. So it is our duty to accept ourselves as we are and avoid ignorance.

Prayer is the Key of Life SIJO KURU

All of you might have heard of Naradha Maharishi. There is a story connected
to him. Once Naradha went to vaikundam in order to visit Mahavishnu. Before
leaving from there, he asked Vishnu, “Swami, who is the best devote of you?”
Vishnu smiled and replied, “my dear son in Nikyaya there is a farmer, he is
the best devotee of me.” Naradhan felt ashamed about it because he thought
that he is the best devotee of Vishnu. Anyway he came out from Vaikundam with a pale face. He went to the farmer and asked him about his prayer, the farmer said, “I pray only twice a day, when I go for the work and when I come back from the farm”. Hearing this Naradhan was so happy, straight away he went to Vishnu and said, “See your devotee is praying only twice in a day, then how can he become the best devotee of you?” Vishnu told nothing. But after thinking for a moment he summoned a soldier and told him to bring one glass of milk, and he did so. Milk was filled till the brim of the glass. Vishnu told Naradhan, “You do one thing take this glass of milk and go around as you do usually, then come in the evening. But one thing you should remember that not even a single drop of milk should fall from the glass. And come in the evening.” Naradhan accepted the challenge and went away from the Vaikundam. At the evening he came back to Vishnu to show that he has faithfully carried our the task. With a smiling face Vsihnu asked him, “Dear son did you think of me this day?” Naradhan replied, I did not remember you swami, my concentration was only in the work that you had entrusted to me.” Then Vishnu said to him, “Because of this small work you could not get time to think about me. But you see that farmer he is entrusted to look after his children, parents, wife, etc. even then he calls up on me twice a day. If it is so who is the best devotee of me?
Although it is a small story, it contains a lot of things for us. Some times we also think we are men of prayer. But there are people who are praying better than us. We should not be proud of our life. Same as Naradha sometimes we also forget to call up on our Lord when we are busy with our studies, work etc. But we never forget to have our food and play etc. If we are not giving priority to the prayer in our life we should remember the words of Jesus, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going to enter the kingdom of God ahead of you.” (Mt21,32) Once Gandhiji told, “Prayer is the key and lock of my daily life”. Same as Gandhiji we should begin our day with prayer and end with the same.
